FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR - WENDY YU

KAFTAN was born from a love of fashion and the desire to explore more creative forms of expression.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, Wendy spent many years working in the world of Investment Banking in London and Hong Kong before she decided to leave to embark on a journey of self-discovery. She went to live on a paradise island in Thailand surrounded by the jungle, the sounds of nature, white sandy beaches and the big blue sea. From there the KAFTAN journey began, taking her on an exploration of India, Berlin, and Bali, where she gathered her ideas and inspirations along the way.

She first started out selling a small range of kaftans in private sales, boutiques, pop-up shops and markets in Hong Kong and Thailand, and then felt inspired to design and launch her own resort wear collection.

Her vision was to create beautiful and sustainable clothing for women without having to compromise on comfort and style. She wanted to blend art into fashion and to weave in elements from her travels around Asia and her own life. The result, a fusion of East meets West with bohemian, oriental and eastern influences.

KAFTAN is a reflection of Wendy and the journey she took to create it. Finding freedom and expression, connecting in with nature and living from her heart, following her passion and following her dreams… this is KAFTAN.
